Hockey Talky: The 2019-2020 Carolina Hurricanes Recap

As the 2019-2020 Hockey season comes to a close, it’s time to look back at the highlights of North Carolina’s home hockey team, the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes currently stand at 5th place in the Metropolitan division, and 2nd in the Eastern Conference Wild Card standings. While it has been a fairly average year for both games and points, with a total of 54 games played in the season so far and a win rate of just over half (34 wins, 21 losses, and 4 ties), certain moments from the 19-20 really stood out for casual viewers and diehard Canes fans alike.

It has been a great season for 22 year old Sebastian Aho who joined the Canes in the 2016-2017 season. Aho has made 30 Goals and 21 assists for a total of 51 total points so far this season. Best stats overall go to Teuvo Teräväinen who has scored 12 goals and a whopping 42 assists, making a total of 54 points.

19 year old Andrei Svechnikov made NHL history for being the first NHL player to successfully score a lacrosse-style goal, also known as a ‘Michigan,’ A move in which the player lifts the puck with their stick to score. In a home game against the Calgary Flames in October, Svechnikov won the game for the Hurricanes, with his two goals in the third period giving them the edge over the Flames. He then successfully achieved this feat again, in a game against the Winnipeg Jets in December.

Expect some more fantastic shots, games, and moments before the season ends this Spring, and don’t forget to check out the official Hurricanes game schedule for the rest of the season and catch a game at the PNC arena!
