Food Pantry in Room 620 Available to Those in Need
Enloe currently holds a public food pantry in the East Building that is open for all students during or after school. However, what many students don’t know is that there is a second food pantry located in Señor West’s room 620 that is available from 2:00 to 2:20 pm. This pantry is more discreet than the one in the East Building, so students who feel uncomfortable carrying food around the school in public are able to drop in during fourth period, grab what they need, and go. Students who plan to go during fourth period should ask their teachers for a pass and Sr. West will sign it after they collect their food.
Sr. West started the pantry in mid-November of 2021 and restocks it weekly with nonperishables. There are gluten-free and vegan options available. He teamed up with Key Club during their food drive to supply food for the pantry and he also spoke with some of the ESL teachers to see what most students said they needed for food. He stated that cooking oil, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish, and sugar are the most popular foods in the pantry. Currently providing food for 20 families, Sr. West wants students from all grades and backgrounds to know that they have a place available at Enloe where they can collect food for free and they don’t have to worry about discretion. He also mentioned that he wants all students to feel comfortable coming into his room and taking food from the pantry.
This pantry collects food donations at any time. If you have food you would like to donate, email Sr. West at [email protected], or stop by room 620 in the towers. The highest demand is for cooking oil and sugar, so if you are able to donate, those are good products to consider.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Enloe Magnet High School, allowing us to cover our annual website costs. We are extremely grateful for any contribution, big or small!
