Senior Spotlight: Marlene Penaloza-Gonzalez
Marlene Penaloza-Gonzalez is a senior at Enloe, and she is a Virgo, with her birthday being on September 9th. When looking around the school, she sometimes tends to blend in with the crowd but don’t let that stop you from walking up to her and talking about anything and everything. Marlene may seem quiet, but she could talk to you for hours about her favorite interests such as Genshin Impact, Vocaloid, or even Hello Kitty. Looking at her Eagle’s Eye profile, Marlene tends to write with a unique perspective, discussing the struggles of growing up in a multicultural household in her article “Clash of Cultures: Growing Up Biculturally”, and the feeling of not fitting in in her poem “What Role to Play.”
Outside of class, Marlene loves video games and enjoys playing Genshin Impact and Street Fighter with her little sister. She also got a PS4 recently for Christmas, of which she uses to play Street Fighter with her sister. Although she claims that her family is annoying, you can tell just how much she loves them by the loving way she jokes about them.
When it comes to games though, she really enjoys the character Xiao from Genshin Impact, of which she has many drawings of (did we mention she can draw!!), but her favorite character is Razor. She also likes Saniro (Hello Kitty & Co.) and Vocaloid (Hatsune Miku among other characters). You’ll often see her drawing these characters, of which she is very talented at, along with buying their figurines to show her love for her favorite characters.
Marlene also enjoys reading and can always be seen with a book. One book she really liked was Aristotle and Dante Contemplate the Universe (4.5/5 stars as she rates it), and her favorite genre is fantasy. Her least favorite genre is romance and she hates Colleen Hoover (as she should).
Marlene had a pet blue betta fish named Azer but he is dead now (may he rest in peace). She has two sisters (Angelic and Alison) and a brother (Jesus – not the Biblical figure) but is the oldest of all her siblings.
According to Ariel, if she was a dog she would be a Newfoundland, which we think is very fitting. Marlene is a quiet and soft-spoken person, but when excited by her interest, she could talk to you for hours. 90% of the time you will find her in a cozy-looking sweater, further showing her soft and loveable nature.
Marlene may seem quiet and reserved but once you get to know her, you see that she is a passionate person who is kind and always happy to talk.
