When you first enter Mrs. Price’s classroom, you’ll be greeted by a medley of laughter and shouting. Among them however, you will also find someone diligently typing away at their computer. Though they may be staring at their computer screen with great concentration, don’t be afraid to approach them. That person is Sydney, one of the kindest people you could have the pleasure of meeting.
Sydney is a staff writer for the Eagle’s Eye, this year having been her first. She is seventeen, turning eighteen in June, and her star sign is Cancer. While we don’t know much astrology we’re assuming that because it’s Sydney, that must be a good thing. She loves writing and reading, passions that are well used in her published works. Sydney is going to UNC Charlotte where she’ll be an English major with a focus on creative writing.
During her year with the Eagle’s Eye, Sydney has published six articles, “‘Free Lunch’: The Hope For Connection”, “Enloe Student Feature: Tyler Butler-Figueroa”, “Making It Through The Winter Months: An Interview With Ms. Nyko and Mr. Vander Krol”, “Volleybros: A Spirit For Winning”, “Senior Spotlight: Kate Brewer”, and “The Stanley Cup Craze: How Far is Too Far?”. With each article, Sydney brings a well informed and nuanced perspective, while keeping things accessible for the average student. Her article “Making It Through The Winter Months: An Interview With Ms. Nyko and Mr. Vander Krol ” provided great resources for students, including information on the not well known student psychologist and her intern. A resource not well known to most of the Eagle’s Eye staff – us included.
Aside from being an excellent writer, Sydney also has excellent taste. Her favorite movies include Ghibli classics, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service, while her favorite drinks are coffee and tea. Sydney’s favorite color is baby pink and while she doesn’t have a favorite book, she loves fantasy and fiction in general. When it comes to music, Sydney enjoys a wide range of artists from a variety of genres. From Matt Maltese, to Keshi, Laufey to Beabadoobee, BTS to Straykids, you’d be hard pressed to find something she can’t appreciate.
We can say with full confidence that Sydney is a great person and a great writer.
“Sydney may be quiet in class but don’t be fooled, she is charismatic and so much fun to talk to! She’s very kind and makes you feel appreciated. I’m sad I didn’t get to know her better earlier in the year.” – Audrey
“Sydney is too cool! She loves to write, thrift, read, has great taste, and always has a story to share if I ask. She’s the type of person you would definitely want to be around.” – Masha
To Sydney:
While we’re going to miss you terribly, we know you will do great things at UNC Charlotte. They are so lucky to have you and the Eagle’s Eye won’t be the same without you. You are so kind, approachable, and genuine. Wherever you go your smile brightens the room and cheers up those you talk to. Stay true to yourself and enjoy life!
