When you look at the dictionary for words like hilarious, sociable, and authentic, you’ll find a picture of Kyler Prince-Cohee! From being an artist in a variety of ways to a leader in student council, Kyler Prince-Cohee is a multi-talented icon and a joy to be around.
Starting at four years old, Kyler’s biggest passion is dance. At Enloe, she has been a member of the dance ensemble for two years and loves not only performing two pieces at each concert (Winter and Spring) but also enjoys creating choreography and setting it on a cast to perform. Kyler has always loved to dance as a hobby, but being introduced to a focused high school modern dance program has changed the way she sees dance and her career goals. Kyler brings genuine curiosity and dedication to the dance ensemble, motivating and inspiring her peers with her creative nature, as well as her supportive and kind spirit.
Her favorite memories at Enloe are the dance concerts each semester and all of the pre-show rituals she does with her friends. Katherine Champion, director of Dance Ensemble, has had the biggest impact on her. Kyler loves Champion’s mind, she inspires her creatively, and she believes that they “were twins in another universe.” Champion describes Kyler as a “beautiful dancer and choreographer, with a very specific and unique movement quality and style.” She continued to say that Kyler’s “natural talent is evident in her composition where she creates rich, detailed, and mature phrase work in the form of solos, duets, small groups and even a modern piece of her own.” In the future, Kyler hopes to be a choreographer/artistic director of a dance company.
Though dance is Kyler’s true love, it’s not the only art she participates in. Kyler loves visual art and crocheting and has been a visual arts student every year at Enloe, from Sculpture to AP Drawing. Kyler is a member of NAHS (National Art Honor Society) and was previously a part of the ACD (Academy of Creative Design) which allowed her to take creative design classes like Adobe Visual Design. Kyler has gained a lot of knowledge in design principles, which helped her earn an internship at Susie Mae Design, an interior design company, last year.
Aside from art, Kyler is also a senior advisor on the student council. She chose to run for this position because Enloe Charity Ball has always inspired her. Because she is passionate about creativity in leadership and loves doing work for her community, Kyler believes that student council is the perfect way for her to fulfill both of those desires. She has “experienced how rewarding it can be to give back in a way [she hasn’t] before.”
Throughout high school, Kyler has learned to be self-assured in her identity and the way she thinks. She explains, “It sounds so cliché, but being yourself truly will help you out. Especially because of the competitive nature of Enloe, it’s important to understand yourself and how you fit into a niche that helps you succeed.” Claire Michnowicz, a friend since freshman year, mentions that the “second you are with Kyler, you immediately feel like you can be your true self and she will love you for it!”
Kyler believes that things like hanging out with the right friend group to understanding accommodations and how you function in a class environment are mandatory for a satisfactory high school experience. Carley Kilcrease, a friend since junior year, says that Kyler is “very self-assured… never doubts herself and stands by her ideals even when somebody tries to go against them.”
Kyler has been described as confident, genuine, caring, and more! It’s evident in how she carries herself that Kyler puts 110% into everything she is a part of. In the future, Kyler wants to create as much as possible and hopes to be a leader. She wants to own a successful business and her biggest wish for her career is to be an “entrepreneur/dancer/diva.” Kilcrease labels Kyler as a person who is “very driven by her passion, and whenever she loves something she dedicates herself to it holistically and her face lights up just talking about it.”
Kyler hopes to spend the next four years majoring in dance and choreography, and either double majoring or minoring in business administration. Her top schools are Fordham University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Bennington College. Whatever college she gets into, she will thrive and be successful!
