Black History Month has finally begun, and this February is a prime time to uplift Black-owned businesses, educate yourself on Black history, and enjoy Black culture and art. But how? Where? When? Well, wonder no longer, The Eagle’s Eye has curated a collection of outings around the Triangle to celebrate this Black History Month.
Black History Trolley Tour
When: Feb. 8, 2025, from 1-2:30 pm and 3-4:30 pm
Where: Mordecai Historic Park, 1 Mimosa Street, Raleigh, NC
Cost: $15
This weekend, hop aboard a relaxing and informative trolly ride across Raleigh’s downtown. You will board at Mordecai Historic Park and travel to the Oberlin neighborhood for a tour of the area’s Historic Turner House and Oberlin Cemetery. Along the way, experts will teach you about the history of Raleigh and its Black community. The tour runs for around 90 minutes, and tickets can be bought for $15 here.
Voices of the Unarmed: Justice, Love, Resilience
When: February 14, 2025, at 8 pm
Where: Carolina Theatre, 309 W Morgan Street, Durham, NC
Cost: Free
The Durham Symphony Orchestra (DSO) will present a selection of emotional pieces as a tribute to the Black community at this concert. Key figures of the Black music community will be featured, including Joel Henry, William Henry Curry, and Herman Whitfield III. The members of the DSO will join the NC Central Kizazi Alumni Chorale and the Concert Singers of Cary. At the end of the concert, all audience members are invited to a post-concert conversation with the artists. Admission is free, but make sure not to miss out by placing your reservation here.
Black History Month Trivia

We’ve Always Been Here: Walking Tour
When: Every Friday in February 2025, from 11 am to noon
Where: Capitol Square, 1 E Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC
Cost: Free
Come take a free tour of Raleigh’s downtown and learn about the history of 20th-century civil rights movements in the city. The tour will run for roughly an hour starting at 11 am. every Friday in February. The total walking distance is just half a mile, and the tour will include a quick visit to the City of Raleigh Museum. Reserve a spot here.
A Night of Soul and Jazz
When: Feb. 14, 2025. Doors open at 7 pm, and the event is from 7:30-9 pm

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate jazz and soul with the people you care about. Featuring African American musicians Al Strong and Chip Shearin, this is sure to be a night of smooth rhythms and memorable melodies. A Love Letter to Hip-Hop & Go Go Concert Experience: Party With A Purpose

The Ongoing Fight for Freedom: Stories of NC Black Veterans

“The Ongoing Fight for Freedom” is a play that showcases the stories of Black NC veterans. The one-man performance honors Black freedom fighters and veterans connected to North Carolina, highlighting their contributions to American democracy despite facing systemic oppression. The play is a 75-minute production written and performed by Dr. Sonny Kelly that offers historical insights into the sacrifice and resilience these people showed. The play is suitable for all ages and admission is free!
Black-Owned Business Pop-Up Market
When: February 22 from 11 am. to 2 pm

On the final Saturday of Black History Month, show up and show out to support local Black entrepreneurs. This pop-up market will feature a plethora of businesses, so whether you’re looking to uplift small businesses, or just eat good food and get some shopping done, this is the event for you. There is no cost of admission, but be prepared to spend some money!
