Friendly, hardworking, and compelling are just a few of the many words that come to mind when describing Gianna Dick. With an honorable reputation in Enloe sports and a strong devotion to leadership, Gianna brings so much to the table, leaving an unforgettable impression on the lives of everyone she meets.
You might recognize Gianna’s name from her illustrious participation in Enloe’s Student Council, climbing up the ladder from advisor to Vice President, and now the Senior Class President. Gianna has enjoyed this year on student council far more with greater opportunities to participate in hands-on work: “[As president], I have been able to work more with the advisor this year, and I’ve done more leading of the Class Council myself,” says Gianna, “I just like doing the class tasks better.”
She also enjoys doing community-centered work like prom, the Senior Picnic, and the Senior Movie Night, being as engaged in the Enloe community as possible. 2024’s Charity Ball qualifies as one of her favorite memories from Enloe, not only because the DJ played Gucci Flip Flops by Bhad Bhabie, but because it made a great addition to the collection of the nostalgic final moments that all seniors share and cherish. “It’s my last one so I’ve been able to appreciate it more, and I think the class has come together a lot more,” says Gianna.
When Gianna isn’t planning an event or running the Enloe Class of 2025 Instagram account, you will most likely find her immersed in athletics. As one of the rare, self-proclaimed lovers of the gym portion of the required Healthful Living course, Gianna’s passion for sports is striking. Throughout her life, she has excelled in volleyball, cross country, flag football, and even horseback riding. Her strong suit is running track, specifically the 400 and 800 meter, but she has brought pride to various Enloe sports teams countless times throughout the past 4 years.
Although it can be physically demanding, Gianna’s love for running defies any challenge that arises on the track. Her favorite memories from being on the team were moments when the group could all be together: “Last year after states, some of the girls and I went to get ice cream, and they were giving the athletes free Takis, so we literally devoured all of it . . . It was so nice because it was our last meet, so it was just a relief to know that all of our hard work had paid off,” Gianna says.
This fall, she was able to join and lead the flag football team as a captain. Flag football opened up an opportunity for her to compete alongside friends in a different environment than track, she says, “It’s really fun. I like the team aspect of it because track is more individual, so it was nice having something different.”
How is it possible to achieve at this level? It’s not unusual for runners to have pre-meet rituals and routines. Gianna’s involves training to the soundtracks of Lana Del Rey and Fiona Apple, and a carb load consisting of pasta, meatballs, and broccoli, topped off with her father’s homemade marinara sauce. Post-meet, she always finishes strong with a rewarding and replenishing Taco Bell run. She gets a supreme combo and of course, a Baja Blast.
The duality of Gianna Dick is something admired by everyone around her, including her long time friend Sophie Rawls, who praises, “Yeah, she’s sporty, but she’s the smartest girl I know. She’s so intelligent, and has a real eye for design too.” This is apparent in her love for film and art, taking IB Film as a junior and acting in her brother’s films throughout her life. Being in the IB program, Gianna is extremely hardworking and values academics. Julia Clayton, friend and self-proclaimed “IB twin” of Gianna’s, expressed her appreciation and love for her. “Whether we are relating through trauma of IB homework and overload, or she’s giving me her cheese Ritz Crackers that I steal from her every day, she always puts me in a good mood, and I can always count on her for a good laugh,” she says. “She’s so funny and positive, and I love that she is not afraid to embrace who she is.”
Gianna is incredibly inspired by her friends and family too, providing her with role models in every corner of her life. “I am grateful to come home to [my family] because they always want to see me succeed,” she says. “My mom and my dad always offer great advice, my mom has been a role model to me because of her positive outlook on life.”
Gianna’s impact at Enloe will last beyond her time here, especially in the relationships she has developed. Sophie said it best: “[She is] one of the most talented and athletic people I know. She’s so hilarious, and she brings joy to my face every single day. She makes me smile, I love her.” While still unsure of where the future will take her, she plans to continue her education next year. Gianna, no matter what you choose to do, it is clear you are on track for greatness. The Eagle’s Eye wishes you the best and is so excited to see you succeed!
