A journalist. A reporter. A PR manager. Soon-to-be Journalism and Mass Communications major Cameron “Cam” Edwards has clearly found her niche—and she’s committed to it for the long haul. We hope that NCAT gives Cam the opportunity to accomplish whatever she dreams of doing or being in the future, careerwise and otherwise.
Cam has been a valuable contributor in every community she’s been a part of. At The Loe Down, you could expect to see her working in the control room, operating the cameras, or managing the crew as floor manager. At the Eagle’s Eye, she’ll be typing away on any given day. Whether she’s doing assignments or working on a new article, you can bet it’s something insightful or engaging, but it’s usually both.
Black culture is a staple of Cam’s writing. Whether it be through topics like R&B music or black history month, her passion for social justice always shines through. Her article entitled “Inside the LoeDown”, walks us through the inner workings of her favorite class, in which she still manages to touch on the diversity and inclusion of the show. From this, it could probably be inferred that Ravyn Lenae and Aaliyah are two of her favorite artists, both being prominent singers in the R&B genre. Her love of music in combination with her hunger for reading has made the Eagle’s Eye the perfect place to channel her inner creativity.
No matter how hard-working Cam might be, there’s always time for fun and leisure. Cam is a stalwart believer in the art of humor. When hanging out with friends, scholarliness goes out the window and her true carefree self emerges. Due to these qualities, it proves extremely easy for her to make friends.
“Cam is sincere and one of the funniest people I know. I can talk to Cam literally about anything and she has a comfortable presence… Cam is a once in a lifetime friend.” says BFF Becky Tanyi. “Cam has been one of my closest friends for the last 7 years and I have never once had an unenjoyable interaction with her. She always shows up whether it’s ranting about a bad day, having funny conversations, watching movies, or playing random video games all night. Cam is everything you need in a friendship.”
Close friend Kalani Simmons shares similar sentiments. She recalls her first impression of Cam being unexpected, but in the best way possible. She notes, “Cam’s best/unique qualities would be her humor, how open minded she can be, and how comfortable she is with being unapologetically herself.” To Kalani, Cam Edwards is the sweetest person she knows and is someone who will undoubtedly make her smile no matter what.
Cameron Edwards is the perfect example of an exceptional individual. We expect that she’ll be just as exceptional in the future, maybe even more. Her diligence is sure to carry her a long way in her college career, as well as her eagerness to learn, passion for her craft, and delightful personality. NCAT is lucky to have an individual like Cam, and we hope Cam feels just as lucky to be there. Have fun in college, Cam!
