Do you ever wonder what makes a good team? Look no further than the Enloe women’s volleyball team as the perfect example of sportsmanship, support on and off the court, and the competitive fire we love to see from our Enloe athletes! After an impressive season, some of the players have shared their insights and stories from their time on the team.
One of the most important aspects of a team is loving and supporting the people you work with. Mira Remke, Senior and outside hitter, spoke about the incredible bond she shares with the girls on the team. She says, “I really love all the girls, but especially my senior class. There are seven of us this year, and we’ve all grown up together. A lot of us were on the team together for JV and now varsity, so it’s really nice to still be together after all this time.”
The bond between the seniors is always so sweet to see, and the whole team makes an effort to support one another. Outside hitter Harper Creech is the only freshman on varsity, but remarked on how included and welcome the team has made her feel throughout the year! “The team bond on varsity is amazing. Everybody is so supportive; they all have helped me get through the mental struggles of an injury, and everybody is just overall great. I love them so much, and I’m going to miss the seniors next season. They made me feel so welcomed.” Junior, DS and libero, Emily Tidd has even stated that her favorite aspect of the team is, “How much we celebrate each other when we get a good point. We’re all very supportive of each other.”
One of the many things that keeps the team in sync is their traditions that celebrate everyone’s efforts throughout the season. Remke stated, “Victoria Caitlin has a pool party for the team as an end-of-season thing. We have cake, we usually swim, and sometimes have a movie night.” Tidd also stated, “We’re probably gonna go play glow-in-the-dark volleyball as an end-of-year thing this year.” It’s great to see how our Enloe athletes get a chance to celebrate their wins together, especially after a long and hard-working season.
Sports are all about skill, but many players believe that luck plays a significant role as well. Some volleyball players shared with us their superstitions. Junior and libero Callie Phan stated, “If you get a perfect pass in volleyball, it’s called a credit, so all of us keep coins in our socks to manifest good passes.” While there are small superstitions, Volleyball is a very strategic game that requires determination from players. Speaking to Creech about her journey on varsity was a great insight, “Being the only freshman on varsity has been an incredible honor. I’ve loved every second of it. The people are great and I love the competitiveness and fast pace of the team. But, it does come with its challenges. The pressure is high and you may be hard on yourself at times but you have to remember why you are on the team in the first place.”
Highs and lows are an inevitable part of playing sports, but the collective highs you get to share with your teammates are the best. Many players mentioned the same Broughton home game as their favorite memory. Phan said, “The Broughton home game last year on varsity was one of our best. Our student section was just huge, and Broughton has been our rivals for so long, I think it was the first time we won a home game against them after 5 years.” Remke shares the same favorite game and even won the winning point that night!
Hearing from these amazing student athletes makes you appreciative of all that they do. The Enloe women’s volleyball team has had a great season so far, and it is surely a tribute to their hard work, dedication, and support for one another. It is so great to see how all our athletes build each other up, because that is truly what makes a good team.
