Halloween is a holiday for everyone. From parties to trick-or-treating to haunted houses, almost every activity involves others. But for those who are looking to stay spooky without the hassle, this article is for you! Welcome to the homebody’s guide to Halloween, to ensure you have a happy, hermit-like halloweekend.
Contrary to popular belief, halloweekend homebody options are abundant. Baking, pumpkin carving, and handing out candy, just to name a few. While these activities are definitely fun in their own right, they also require setup and skills you may not want to deal with. However, there’s a classic way to get into the Halloween spirit without all the extras: playing spooky games and watching scary movies!
Horror Games
It’s easy to want to play a horror game. The hard part? Choosing one! With so many factors to consider like story, creepiness, and even price, it can be difficult to know which one gives you the best bang for your buck.
What We Recommend: Roblox Horror Games
If you want a good scare without breaking the bank, we recommend browsing the Roblox menu for horror games, both new and classic to the app. You might be surprised to learn that there are plenty of truly spooky games that Robloxians have enjoyed for years.
The Mimic
If you’ve been around the Roblox block, you most likely heard about The Mimic, especially during Halloween season. With two books each having four chapters, there’s plenty of gameplay to explore. In the game, you play as a student trying to find your missing friends in a supernatural high school, which blurs the lines of reality as you get transported through different sceneries as you explore. Throughout the game, you navigate through mazes and areas while trying to avoid monsters and finding keys to progress the story. The game is surprisingly scary and definitely not what you’d expect from a game like Roblox.

Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNAF): Co-op
That’s right, there’s a FNAF remake on Roblox. Fitted with a whopping seven FNAF games, five being remakes and two originals, there’s plenty of content to go through. In the FNAF games, you play as a night guard at a kids party venue with moving animatronics. Throughout the night, you must monitor them and avoid being killed by them as they attempt to come into the office. With each night within each game getting progressively harder, the game is thrilling as you try to keep track of each animatronic. The games made by the Roblox developers are also worth exploring as they’re spin-offs of the remakes and add fun new features.

Horror Movies
Maybe horror games are too hands-on, or you don’t want to bother downloading a game to play. Don’t worry, there’s a great alternative: horror movies! Movies are a great way to get the chills without even lifting a finger. As always, though, there are plenty of things to consider: classic or new? Thriller or slasher? The list goes on. Here’s our recommendation:
“A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)”
As one of the quintessential classic Halloween horror movies, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is unsurprisingly a solid Halloween watch. This Wes Craven slasher features teenager Nancy Thompson as she investigates her friends’ mysterious deaths, all related to a specific nightmare. Eventually, she must confront Freddy Krueger, the haunting killer of their nightmares. The movie is a perfect mixture of horror, mystery, and excitement as Nancy’s investigation progresses. Additionally, if you’re the type to laugh at horror movies, “A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)” is for you, too. Old-fashioned visual FX and character lifestyle are sure to make you laugh when you think about how much the times have changed.

Being a homebody on a holiday like Halloween can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you choose to play a Roblox horror game or watch an old slasher movie, we know you’ll feel right at home without leaving it.
