Violet is an artist, musician, friend to many, and much Moore. Singing, playing piano, arranging music, drawing, painting, writing, crocheting, looking at art, and talking about art are just a few examples; if it requires a creative touch, Violet Moore is involved and excels at it. But she doesn’t stop there! If you are fortunate enough to really get to know Violet, you know that on top of being an incredible artist, she is a remarkably authentic, committed, and kind soul who puts her all into the people and things that she cares about.
Throughout high school, Violet has dedicated the vast majority of her free time to various creative endeavors. Most notably, Violet has been a part of Crescenloe, Enloe’s acapella group, for two years. Over those two years, she has given immense amounts of her time to the group, both in and out of rehearsal. During preparations for the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA), the group rehearses three times a week, through the afternoon and often late into the evening. But Violet never complains about this large time commitment, ever. In fact, she has only praises to sing for Crescenloe. The love and care that Violet puts into the group is returned right back to her, and she leaves each rehearsal with a wide grin spread across her face. Her longtime friend and Crescenloe’s music director, Claire Michnowicz corroborated this, “You can tell that she loves [Crescenloe] and is gonna give everything she has to it.” This year, Cresenloe placed in the ICHSA semi-final for the first time in Enloe history, and that can only be attributed to the work that every single member put in.
Violet’s musical endeavors aren’t limited to acapella, she is also a part of Chamber Choir, and has been a member of Enloe Chorus for all four years of high school. Spending time every other school day in the chorus room, singing and goofing off with her friends, chorus has been a cornerstone of Violet’s time at Enloe. Claire says, “It’s one of her favorite things. You can tell when she’s in chorus, she’s in her zone.” Enloe’s chorus teacher, Ms. Hallihan highlighted Violet’s contributions to the class, noting her “enthusiasm” and “dedication” to the music. Her commitment to learning and growth is clear, especially this year. Violet was part of three small groups who auditioned and were selected to compose and perform a piece at this year’s Choral Cabaret. Ms. Hallihan remarked, “It’s so incredible to see how much she’s grown as a musician and a singer, but also as a person. I think that she’s found a kind of community within this group of people, and I’d like to think that that’s helped her grow into the person she is today.”
Considering both her love of all things creative and her characteristic altruism, it’s no surprise that Violet is a member of National Art Honor Society and the secretary of Tri-M, Enloe’s music honor society, where she utilizes her artistic skill to give back to her community. Whether she’s lending her musical talent to student-organized performances at retirement homes and local bookstores, painting the murals that bring life to our hallways, or even spending hours on a hand made gift for a friend’s birthday, Violet’s creativity always makes a positive impact. She’s not afraid to try new kinds of art, either. This past year, she tried her hand at an alternative medium, and flawlessly dyed a cheetah print design onto her friend’s bleached buzz cut.
Violet’s close friends know that she has impeccable taste in any kind of online media. Not only does she know what she likes, but she also knows what her friends like, consistently recommending TV shows and artists that become instant favorites. Some favorites that she has successfully put her friends on to include: Arrested Development, Rhett and Link, Olivia Dean, Hamilton, and the entire Minecraft universe. And, if you’re lucky enough to get to watch TV with Violet at her house, you’ll probably end up with one of her three cats on your lap, and her dog licking your face too.
As a friend, Violet is the kind of person who will do just about anything with you. You might find her at a birthday party for a friend’s grandma, or simply studying in a cafe, keeping the people she cares about company. Whatever it is, if you’re with Violet, it’ll be a blast. “You can have fun with her even when there’s not an actual activity to do, just spending time with her is enough to have fun,” said Claire. It’s hard to say what exactly makes Violet such a good friend; it might be her willingness to drop everything to show up for her loved ones, or perhaps her ability to stay calm in the face of misfortune, or the countless other things that she does to go above and beyond for her friends. There is a through line, though, and it’s her devotion to putting others above herself, and to always doing the right thing, the kind thing, and the honest thing.
There is no one quite like Violet. A fundamentally genuine person, with an inspiring level of dedication to the things she cares about, Violet is sure to succeed in many ways. When asked to predict Violet’s future, Ms. Hailihan said, “Honestly, she’s going to be happy. Because I know she’s going to make the choices that will benefit her … because she’s not afraid to go and get what she wants.”
Violet plans to attend UNC Greensboro for Art History with a minor in Music, letting her natural creativity guide her through the next chapter of her life. The Eagle’s Eye could not be more grateful to have had her on staff, and is so excited to see what she’ll do. Go Spartans!
Violet,
Knowing you has been such a gift. For someone with many multitudes, one consistent thing popped up in every interview and aspect of your life while I was writing this article: growth. Across the four years I’ve been lucky enough to be your friend, you’ve become someone who is so inspiring, principled, confident and just plain cool. I am always laughing around you, and always in awe at your ability to stay grounded no matter the circumstance. Your genuine care for the things that matter to you is so rare, and it is my hope that whatever you do in the future, you’ll continue to do it authentically. Stay silly, stay artsy, stay awesome!
With much admiration and love,
Elise
Violet!!
This is a very condensed version of all the good things I could say about you. I could talk endlessly about what a good person you are, what a caring friend you are, and how much sheer joy you have brought to my life. To keep it short: you are one in a million, my friend. You inspire me every day to be more creative, more kind, and more authentically myself. It has been an honor to know you throughout high school, and I am so excited to see the person you become because I know you will continue to be true to yourself and do what you love.
Much love,
Mars
