Butterfly Effect, Enloe’s Women’s Empowerment Club, will have a very special guest speaker at their next meeting, State Representative Julie Von Haefen, a Democrat in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

Kelley Calvillo, co-leader of the club, explains that Haefen “is a huge advocate for women’s equality among other things, and it’s necessary to hear from women who are succeeding in male fields.” Having a female guest speaker from the world of politics is very important for the club for Calvillo. “Politics is a male-dominated field, and when women enter politics, they tend to be regarded as over-emotional, not serious, or as little girls. It’s great to hear from women who are succeeding in our state and to hear about how female-identifying people in our community could follow in her footsteps,” says Calvillo. 

The club is open to all female-identifying individuals, and their upcoming meeting is on October 5 in room 2205 from 2:30-3:30.
