Enloe students flooded the West Gym on Friday for the men’s varsity basketball team’s annual coming home game. The student body was more spirited than ever, with cheers echoing across the court as the Eagles took on the Broughton Capitals.
Owen Pedersen, senior forward on the team, played a notably excellent game, and the cheerleaders—as always—gave a superb performance, shaping the palpable energy in the room.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Eagles looked to defend a hard-fought lead against their adversaries. Enloe led the Capitals 43-36, and things were looking up until Broughton took the lead in the last few minutes of the game.
With the clock stopped at 2:22 and the score 47-50 for the Capitals, the student section waited with bated breath, hoping for a last-minute comeback. After Jamyr Coleman made a driving layup for Enloe, the Eagles were down one, but Broughton regained their lead in the final seconds of the game. The final score was 52-54 favoring the Capitals, and even though Enloe was not victorious, the growth and potential of this year’s team was apparent.
Gift Moses, a senior at Enloe and forward on the team summed up the game:
“Even though we didn’t receive the outcome we were looking for, I believe that we all played a great game and became more cohesive as a team,” said Moses.
